Planning - Ideal target audience

Ideal target audience - Ben is 21 years old, and has developed an interest for the outdoors, specifically mountaineering. This has happened due to him seeing videos online, on platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, of people climbing mountains in the UK. Ben wants to get out into the hills yet has very little hillwalking or mountaineering experience and doesn’t know what equipment to buy. Ben’s friends, like him, developed an interest for the outdoors recently. However, there have been situations where they have put themselves in danger, due to a lack of preparation and knowledge. One of Ben’s friends had to call for Mountain Rescue, after twisting his ankle on one of the peaks. This had made Ben more aware of the danger mountains bring. Aside from Ben wanting to get into the mountains himself, he also wants his friends to understand that the mountains are not to be messed with, and that they need to buy the right equipment. Despite telling them this, some of them refuse to take him ...

Planning - Logo planning/sketch

Image
Reflection - Here is my planning for the design of my brand logo. I find that sketching makes it a lot easier to experiement with designs. I broke it into three segments, being the 'name', 'font' and 'brand image'. For the name, I chose 'Webster Films', as it is broad, allowing choice in my productions, whilst also making it clear that I am creating films and documentaries. For the font, I wanted something that was simplistic and easy to read, yet something that wasn't boring. After sketching some design ideas down, I settled on a font that fits my requirements. Finally, for the brand image, I knew I wanted it to be mountain/outdoor related. I sketched down some designs, and found an image on canva that looks very similar to one of the sketches. After this, I put all these aspects together, to create a 'final sketch' of what I want my brand logo to look like. After this, I went onto Canva, an designing website, and created a logo based around...

Planning - Documentary Storyboard

Image
Reflection - This has given me a good plan for my documentary. I intend to follow this structure fairly closely, however I may change aspects once I have collected my footage. By following a structure, it makes the preperation of the production a lot easier, and sets you on a path. Even though I may change aspects to this, it has put me in a good direction for when I start creating my documentary.

Planning - Documentary Timeline

Image
Reflection (15/03/25) - Upon completion of my documentary, doing this timeline helped me with my overall planning for the production. I stuck to my plan of having shots of mountains at the start of the documentary, to set the overall theme. I also stuck to the plan of having a 'raw' sound, by including a wind noise, which transitioned into dramatic music. I moved the voiceover talking about statistics to the end of the production, however instead I added a voiceover talking about Mountain Rescue, followed by an introduction to the interviewee (Chris Lloyd). I include footage of Mountain Rescue (not the HQ) and interview footage, like on the timeline, but the footage took up the majority of the production, simply because what was being said addressed the issue. I decided not to include footage of myself, simply because it was not needed. I didn't include a voiceover of myself talking about solutions, as they had already been adressed by Chris Lloyd. For the outro, I stuck w...

Planning - Documentary Pitch

Documentary pitch - The documentary I will be producing will be an expository documentary. It will cover issues regarding safety in the mountains (UK), with a supporting interview with mountain rescue, discussing any issues they face and how it can be resolved. I was inspired to do an expository documentary by famous documentaries such as ‘Our Planet’. I also noticed that there is a gap in the documentary market, being a documentary based primarily upon the issue regarding mountain safety and the issue mountain rescue face. My aim is to fill the gap in the market with my production. My target audience is anyone who shares an interest in the mountains and the outdoors. The target audience isn’t specific to the UK as safety issues in the mountains occur in many places around the world. The demographic of my target audience would most likely be a minimum of around 17-18, through to elder ages. I decided to include elder ages because even though they may not be climbing mountains or mou...
