Planning - Ideal target audience

Ideal target audience - Ben is 21 years old, and has developed an interest for the outdoors, specifically mountaineering. This has happened due to him seeing videos online, on platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, of people climbing mountains in the UK. Ben wants to get out into the hills yet has very little hillwalking or mountaineering experience and doesn’t know what equipment to buy. Ben’s friends, like him, developed an interest for the outdoors recently. However, there have been situations where they have put themselves in danger, due to a lack of preparation and knowledge. One of Ben’s friends had to call for Mountain Rescue, after twisting his ankle on one of the peaks. This had made Ben more aware of the danger mountains bring. Aside from Ben wanting to get into the mountains himself, he also wants his friends to understand that the mountains are not to be messed with, and that they need to buy the right equipment. Despite telling them this, some of them refuse to take him seriously. What Ben needs is a clear film or documentary that outlines this issue, along with putting emphasis on the strain Mountain Rescue is under, which will hopefully educate Ben and his friends, so they are more safe.

Reflection - Creating an ideal target audience 'character' is always useful when planning for a production. By doing this, it 'puts you in the shoes' of someone who your production is aimed at. This helps you align your production to suit the needs of this person (target audience), whilst also letting people know who it is targeted towards.
