Planning - photoshop editing skills

Image
As I wanted to edit my magazine front cover, I had to learn basic photoshop skills such as adding and removing layers, changing the colour of objects and removing unwanted marks or objects from a photo. I found learning this skill very useful and it helped me edit my front cover.

Planning - double page spread intro page mock up

Image
This is my double page spread intro page. I included an intro page to go with my double page spread as my double page didn't show all the characteristics of an article. I chose the same mise en scene as the front cover and contents page to keep the same theme on all sections of my magazine. For the title I chose the same font as my double page to keep them as similar to eachother as possible. For the article, I included the characteristic of having the first letter enlargened. I found this made the article look more professional and overall more appealing and powerful to the reader. I kept my article simple and split text into paragraphs where necessary, making it easier to read. For the main image, I decided to use a stock image as I had taken all the other photos on the other sections of my magazine my self. I chose the image to be one that stood out to the reader but at the same time one that fits in with the simplistic theme of my magazine. I chose to put this image along the...

Planning - double page spread mock up

Image
This is my double page spread mock up. I chose I different style to present my article and broke it down into small sections of writing, talking about the nuritional value of each food or supplement. I also wrote an intro page for my double page as not all charateristics of an article are demonstrated here. I took all the photos shown using a light box. I then used remove.bg to remove the background of all the images to create a cleaner look. I ensured that all of the photos were put to similar sizes to stop the page from looking unbalanced. I then used black lines to seperate the different pieces of text which I think made the page look more professional, clear and spacious. I included a warning section to my double page as I am aware that protein supplements can cause unpleasant symptoms if taken unnecessarily or of incorrect quantity. In order to protect my readers as the majority of my target audience will mostly likely have a lack of experience or knowledge about gym and fit...

Planning - Double page spread (behind the scenes)

Image
This is my behind the scenes for the photography of my double page spread. I used a lightbox to take these photos and they came out a lot better than expected. I then used remove.bg which made them look better on the final product. What I learnt from doing this is that it's important you have the lights shining in the right places on the lightbox otherwise it can create shadowing and consequently not look good.

Planning - Double page spread initial idea

Image
This is my initial idea of my magazine double page spread. The topic for my double page spread is about foods which are naturally high in protein vs protein supplements. My idea is on the left hand side of the double page have natural high protein foods and on the right side have protein supplements. I will present each product by having the name, a picture of the food taken under a lightbox and below each one a small article about each food, including serving sizes, calories and macros. In the top right corner of the double page, I will include a safety disclaimer about protein supplements. This will include serving sizes supplements like protein powder, along with why and when it is necessary to take a supplement. I aim to make my double page exciting and interesting to my target audience, which will be done by taking good photos and including a variety of colours.
