Research - Bill Nicholl - 6 modes of documentary

https://voicethread.com/myvoice/thread/28529366 Reflection - Researching Bill Nicholl and his 6 modes of documentary has been very educational. By learning about each 'mode' of documentary, it has given me a variety of structures to choose from, that I can follow for my own production. I particularly like the sound of 'expository' documentaries, which involve interviews and deliver a clear message. If I was to a documentary about mountain safety, I could include interviews with Mountain Rescue members, to help deliver a clear message across. I also quite like 'observation' documentaries, which observe the truth and capture 'uninterrupted' footage. However, I am not sure how well that would work with a mountain safety documentary, as I doubt Mountain Rescue would let me film them doing a real rescue callout.

Research - John Grierson - Founder of the British Documentary movement

https://voicethread.com/myvoice/thread/28529094 Reflection - Researching about John Grierson taught me about how he used motion pictures to shape peoples attitudes towards life. His work took an educational approach, with 'Drifters' being based upon real life. His focus on 'real life' studies is inspiring. If I choose to do a documentary about mountain safety, I could implement his ideas into my work, with the idea of educating people about the issue regarding mountain safety and the strain it has on Mountain Rescue. I could also intend on attempting to shape peoples attitudes regarding this problem, by following his style.
