Research - The Lumiere brothers

https://voicethread.com/myvoice/thread/28286687 Reflection - Researching about the Lumiere brothers has taught me about the history of documentary and where it all began. It was interesting learning about how documentary was first developed, with the use of the cinematograph, and how that developed into cinema.

Research - codes and conventions of documentaries

Reflection – by doing this task, I now have a better understanding of the key aspects of a documentary. This has been useful to me as I can pick out some of the aspects that I have an interest in or that I think will suit my type of documentary. Some codes and conventions that I have taken an interest in regarding the content are interviews with experts/witnesses/participants and the use of archive footage. These would work with the idea of potentially doing a documentary around mountain rescue, as interviews with professionals and archive footage will make the production a lot more trustworthy. In terms of filming, I’d potentially like to include a narrative voice over, as I feel it will make the production a lot clearer the the viewers about what is happening. In terms of editing, the idea of the use of emotive music interests me, as for if I chose to do a production around mountain rescue, it would increase the overall drama and suspense.
